Amnesia of History

Amnesia of History and the road westwards .

The old world forgot that it were the Vikings that first discovered the east coast of America in the years 990-1020.
They settled there for more than two centuries and than suddenly disappeared in the fog of time .
We know the name of Leif Eriksson (son of Eric the Red). He was born on Greenland in the year 970. We assume that these
were the first european settlers on New Foundland .
The Vikings had knowlege of the runic alphabet, but most of the population was illiterate and therefore not able to preserve
written documents of theire discoveries for theire offspring.
From more recent archeological founds we know now that Christopher Columbus was not the first to discover America.
Never the less America thanks his name to Americo Vespuchy.
History books do not always tell the truth...it seems that history sometimes suffers from amnesia.
